To those of you I have never met, my name is Paige Lamb and I am the AmeriCorps volunteer with Slum Doctor Programme.  I have had the pleasure of working for SDP since November and along with other volunteer educators, have shared our Global AIDS Curriculum with 1,000 students in Whatcom County.  I have taught young people in the community about the HIV/AIDS pandemic and through this presentation, offered students tangible ways to get involved and create change.  And although I can list off statistics and describe the devastating impact HIV has had on sub-Saharan Africa, I cannot describe what the Ombogo GIrls’ Academy is like or share our Kenyan partner’s stories, because I have never been there. That will soon change however, as I am preparing to leave for Kenya (tomorrow) with Tim Costello, our executive director, and three amazing WWU professors. We will be visiting our partners in Kenya, listening to their stories, sharing ours and helping make the improvements they need.  I will have the opportunity to talk with the girls at the Ombogo school and collect video footage and interviews to share with students here.

We will keep you updated on any news and will share photos from the trip once we return.  Thank you for your support.
